Located in the Ashanti Region of Ghana, the Obuasi Gold Mine is an underground mine that was once among the world's top ten largest gold mines. It is situated near Obuasi in the Obuasi Municipal District, 60 km southwest of Kumasi. In 2008, it contributed 11% to AngloGold Ashanti's Ashantiland operations, including the Iduapriem Gold Mine, in annual production. Despite its temporary closure in 2014, the mine still has a significant resource of 62 million troy ounces.
