Navrongo, situated in the Upper East Region of northern Ghana and bordering Burkina Faso, is a town and the administrative capital of Kassena-Nankana District. It has a population of 27,306 people as of 2012. Navrongo is an important commercial center and is renowned for its cathedral and grotto. The terrain is flat and the ecology is typical of the Sahel, characterized by arid grassland with intermittent shrubbery. Notably, the town houses the first-ever solar plant in Ghana with a 2 Megawatt capacity, known as the Navrongo Solar Power Station, which is a significant achievement.
