Kwahu is a region inhabited by the Twi-speaking Akan people in Ghana, known as Asaase Aban, or the Natural Fortress, due to its position as the highest inhabitable elevation in the country. Located on the west shore of Lake Volta in the Eastern Region, Kwahu shares its territory with other Akans like the Akyem and Akuapem, as well as the Adangbe-Krobos. The Afram Plains area, adjacent to the region, is home to indigenous Guans from the bordering Oti and Brong East Regions, as well as a significant migrant population from the Northern and Volta Regions, who work as traders, farm-hands, fisherfolk, and caretakers in the fertile waterfront melting pot.
