Due to a dispute over food, a once iconic place in Akuapem history has lost its significance over time. In 1733, an important event occurred in the township of Abotakyi, which solidified an agreement between the Akyems and the Akuapems. The signing of an oath by the entire Okuapeman and Akyem people, marked by the planting of a stone, granted the Akyem (Ofori Kuma) and his descendants the Okuapeman stool (the Ofori stool). This came after the Akyems had aided the Akuapems and their neighboring tribes in driving out the oppressive Akwamus. However, circumstances have led to Abotakyi becoming a small and obsolete town today.
